Primer Information | Zink Chromate Primer is formulated to exceed the performance standards in the Federal Specification TT-P-1757. This primer promotes maximum adhesion to bare aluminum and steel and is recommended for that purpose |
Physical Properties PTI-Y/GCHROM contains Zinc Chromate pigments. Because of the solvents and zinc chromate pigments present in the primer, use with adequate ventilation and wear protective breathing equipment during application. Application Cleaning All parts must be cleaned film free using an appropriate cleaning method. A solvent wipe with a clean, lint free rag using IPA, Acetone, or MEK are sufficient. Mixing Before mixing, material must be put on a mechanical shaker to fully disperse the contents. Mix 8 parts primer with 1 part reducer using PTI-1003TYIII or PTI-1022X66 solvent blend. Reduce ONLY IF NECESSARY. There is no potlife on this material.Method of Application PTI-Y/GCHROM may be applied by dipping, rolling or spraying. Spraying temperatures are between 40 deg. And 100 deg. F. Apply a thin wet coat. A topcoat may be applied after 20 minutes. Optimum adhesion occurs if topcoat is applied within 8 hours. Scotchbrite is not required before topcoating. Curing A normal coat dries dust free, in 5 minutes and dries hard in 15 minutes. A full cure can take up to 72 hours depending on temperature and humidity.
