An RV-12 training aircraft with more than 1700 hours of accumulated flight time recently experienced a nose gear fatigue failure. This is the only reported instance; no other fatigue-related nose gear failures have been reported.

Completed Remove the stabilator bearings.

Being careful not to get any Loctite inside the seals on the bearing, apply Loctite 648 per the instructions on the Loctite package and in accordance with the Maintenance Manual Chapter 5 Stabilator Hinge Replacement procedure.

A damaged nose fork was returned to Van's Aircraft for review. Upon inspection, the nose fork was discovered to have had a manufacturing defect. Parts at Van's Aircraft were also inspected and some were found to have a similar defect  ( will check on preflight )
